Retirement assets such as a pension, 401K, or an Individual Retirement Account (IRA) frequently require that a legal document called a Qualified Domestic Relations Order (QDRO) be prepared to instruct the plan administrator how to divide the retirement asset.

Public pensions such as the Public Employees Retirement System (PERS) and the State Teachers Retirement System (STRS) also require that a legal document be prepared before a public pension is divided. This document is referred to as a Division of Property Order or a (DOPO).

The mediators of Duffy & Associates do not prepare either the QDRO or DOPO but shall assist couples who need these legal documents drafted.
